Abby W. Schachter is raising four children with her artist husband Ben Schachter in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
She is currently employed as a research fellow at Carnegie Mellon University’s Institute for Politics and Strategy.
She is the author of No Child Left Alone: Getting the Government out of Parenting (Encounter Books, 2016). The book takes an in-depth look at how many private decisions have been taken out of the hands of parents and been made the responsibility of unaccountable bureaucrats. Why have parents been arrested for allowing their kids basic independence? Did you know that there’s practically a regulatory war on fun? And how come we need Washington to control what every child eats for breakfast and lunch at school? No Child Left Alone exposes how Uncle Sam is the worst helicopter parent in America.
Abby spent 2018-2019 writing about medical marijuana and vaping. From 2003 to 2012, Abby was a member of the editorial board at the New York Post, where she served as a politics blogger, an op-ed page editor and books editor. She has served as a foreign correspondent from Jerusalem; an editorial writer in Washington; and a book reviewer, politics, pop culture and economics columnist for a wide variety of online and print publications. Her work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Commentary Magazine, the Weekly Standard, Reason Magazine, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Acculturated, the Forward, the Jewish Review of Books, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, National Review, and the Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle.
